I love writing down my take on just about everything that is happening around the globe.
Can you now guess why I have to put up this blog?
Right.
Welcome to my blog!

Housemate Melisa “Melai” Cantiveros was declared the Big Winner in last night’s Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Double Up finale!
To all PBB Doube Up fans, I don’t think it came as a surprise that Melai won. It was already expected. Being the only female standing proud in the Big 5, plus the fact that it is obvious ABS-CBN is already grooming her to be the next Pokwang of the network, you just know they will do everything to declare her the winner. Also, it is our attitude as Filipinos to always give way to the women, especially when she’s the only one remaining among a couple of men.
So tell me, where you surprised Melai was declared the ultimate winner in the recently concluded PBB Double Up?

My sister and I often watch reality TV shows. We are suckers for any of these shows, especially those about families. Recently, there are re-runs of the MTV show 16 and Pregnant. We watched the story of Farrah. I think she’s the most popular among those teen pregnant moms. We’ve managed to watch three stories already. We don’t really know the exact time the show is on but we’re okay with that. I digress.
Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this show. First, the good feeling. I like the fact that MTV is showing how life has drastically changed for the teenage moms (and the guys who got them pregnant). Still in high school, it is not only embarrassing for them to tell everyone about their condition, it also changed their lifestyles. Morning sickness, growing baby bump, worries about finances and the future. A teen with half a brain would realize upon watching that when you get pregnant (or impregnated someone) and you are still a teen, life will turn for the difficult. Or worse for most. Not to mention that it will cause disappointment, hurt and too many problems, including strained relationships, with the parents. That Farrah story even has the man who impregnated her missing in action!
Now, on to the bad feeling. Kids are impressionable. Most are even drawn to the bad/negative/dark side. If they see something that they know will anger their parents, being the rebel kid and all, they might think of doing it. Just to annoy the hell out of those who care for them. Remember those teens who made a pact of getting themselves pregnant when they turn 16? You get my drift. Even with the harsh reality of a difficult life ahead for a teen mom or dad, they don’t care as long as they give in to what they think will make them happy. Plus the fact that MTV’s showing the teen preggy moms declaring how they couldn’t wait to see their kid or how the kid changed their lives for the better. Sure, a baby is a blessing. But they should also be reminded of the fact that the baby should not be subjected to a harsh/difficult life just because they can’t control their body urges.
Teens out there should not get angry with their parents for being mad at them, for showing their hurt and the betrayal they feel. What parent won’t get hurt when they heard about their teenage kid pregnant/has impregnated someone? Of course, they are thinking how their kid can make it through life. Still in school, not yet working, already with a kid. Life is not easy. Especially for a 16 and pregnant kid!
I wish MTV would put a disclaimer in the beginning and end of the show. It should remind teens to be careful, to consult their parents/guardians/someone from school and ask them about sex education and birth control. It’s good that a show like this is being shown. But it should also encourage a positive change and not just let teens interpret the show as they may.

It is with sadness that I write this news. Captain Phil Harris of Discovery Channel’s the Deadliest Catch has died. My sister and I love that show. And I feel like I’ve known the man personally.
For the fans of the show, he was the captain of the crab fishing vessel Cornelia Marie. He suffered a stroke late last month and was put in an induced coma. He was thought to have recovered fast but then his body might be too tired already and gave up.
Phil’s sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew are all mourning the loss of the brave captain.
Rest in peace, Captain.
I write sporadically. That’s why there are days or maybe a week that you won’t see any updates here. But when I do start writing, I promise you, you will get SO MUCH from here!
I have a Twitter account, by the way. It’s JustAbtEveG. Come follow me!

Should have stuck to this look.
Jolina Magdangal emerged in today’s SOP looking very much like a pathetic copy-cat of Lady Gaga. Who the hell told her to do such a thing??? Doesn’t she know she’s looking like her old jologs self? The one from her Marvin Agustin days when she went lukring with those colored hair clip-ons and butterflies?
Somebody tell this person to STOP making herself look pathetic! She shouldn’t have gone this route. Come on! Lady Gaga??? Who can really pull it off, right? ONLY LADY GAGA! Nobody else! First off, Jolina’s too short. She still looks like a teenager in some angles even if everybody knows she’s not anymore. Secondly, she really isn’t that much of a good singer and dancer. What was her last hit song, anyway? Right. Nobody remembers. If there’s one, it’s well over a decade ago! Lastly, she should have considered who her fans are. Will they really like her looking like that? Can she look the part every time she is in public or will she be back to her old self if she’s not promoting her new album (entitled Jolie, by the way. Eeek!)? Does she think her new image will stick in everyone’s mind? Will the viewing public take her seriously or will she just get a lot of ridicule from it?
Personally, I think she will forever be jologs. And in my opinion, she should have thought going acoustic, for example. Or like stick to singing love songs. Because that’s her area. Plus, there’s a large market for acoustic singers now. Hello, Aiza Seguerra and Juris Fernandez! Should have thought of that.
Jolina should fire whoever conceptualized this poor Lady Gaga impersonation ASAP!
I am not really a big fan of Angel Locsin before when she was still a Kapuso. I felt as if her acting was lame. Plus the fact that we didn’t hear that much about her personal life there except all those guys drooling after her.
Then she became a Kapamilya and was given the treatment that her status deserves. Di na jologs like she used to be in the other network. Nothing really impressive happened. She was paired with Piolo Pascual and their chemistry was pilit. Lobo wasn’t as big as it was promoted to be. But she got the nod of the critics. Was even nominated for an International Emmy. Her acting improved!
And she became more human in the eyes of her non-fans like me. It was during the onslaught of Ondoy that we really got to see the Angel Locsin. I am hearing things about her humanitarian work in Mindanao but with the evidence shown on national TV of her distributing relief goods herself in areas affected by Ondoy…
I am a follower of Angel Locsin in Twitter. I just read her tweets about her call for blood donation for the Philippine National Red Cross. She’s really serious about being socially active. I hope the United Nations will make her an Ambassadress of Goodwill much like what happened to Angelina Jolie. Personally, I think she deserves it more than Angelina does
