Tocino or tosino is a cured meat product usually made out of pork and is similar to ham and bacon although beef is also used. It is often reddish in color and has a sweetish taste. Its name is derived from the Spanish word tocino, which is used to describe bacon or cured meat.

siopao1

When I was a kid, whenever we (my siblings and I) get sick our mom would buy us siopao (steamed bun) and an orange soda. I really don’t know what’s the connection between that food and our sickness but it really make us feel well.

Siopao is special in my stomach heart, it reminds me of my mom and our childhood. Now, I eat it anytime I want. It’s like a chocolate to me, it makes me happy whenever I eat one. For those of you who haven’t tried it, do try eating this special bun. And please, please don’t believe the dirty rumors about siopao! ;-)
